About 4.000 European Technical Assessment-ETA applications in Europe

On October 12 and 13, the 13th meeting of the EOTA Technical Board took place in Coimbra. According to EOTA’s Secretariat, on the 8th of September 3.920 ETA applications had been received since the 1st of July 2013. Of these applications, the organisation members have issued a total of 2.174 ETAs. This represents an important increase on last May’s data. It has been confirmed that the ETA route for the CE marking is increasingly used by producers with construction products not covered by a harmonised standard.

The meeting also followed up the work in progress for the conversion from ETA Guidelines to European Assessment Documents-EAD. These works are progressing more slowly than expected because of the European Assessment Documents-EAD complexity and the need to solve issues which are not considered in the Construction Products Regulation. These issues are resolved case by case with the European Commission. Until the final EADs are not published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the ETA Guidelines which are the object of conversion works can be used for the ETA issuing.

In early November, the 9th report of ITeC EOTA Office will give more details of the current conversion works.

EOTA is the European Organisation for Technical Assessment, which deals with products without a harmonised standard that need to be CE marked, either products without a harmonised standard or products that deviate from an existing harmonised standard. As a member of EOTA, ITeC participates actively in the several organs of this European organisation.
