Euroconstruct report: Attributing blame for the crisis to the construction industry has unnecessarily complicated the sector’s future

As a member of the Euroconstruct network representing Spain, ITeC presented the conclusions of the Winter Report to the Infrastructure Circle, a foundation made up of organizations and companies with the aim of fostering a fuller awareness of the importance of infrastructure in economic development and in our well-being as citizens.

The presentation made it clear that average expectations at continental scale continue to be relatively modest, while noting that this is the result of combining a group of countries in which the sector is experiencing difficulties with another group in which the situation is good or very good, even in the current context of considerable uncertainty. Spain faces some difficulty in forming part of this latter group of markets for which it seems to be true that every crisis is at the same time an opportunity. The fact is that the Spanish construction sector is still burdened by an excessively heavy backpack: that of having been singled out as the main culprit of the recession.

Euroconstruct, an independent research group which specialises in forecasting developments in the construction sector, has representatives from 19 European countries. The Institute is responsible for preparing the report Spain, which is presented twice yearly, together with those for the other member countries, to the Euroconstruct Conference.
