BIM conference in the Catalonia Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering: “We draw as we build and we are paid as we quote”

The Catalonia Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with ITeC, offered the last march 19th a technical session to inform its collegiate members about the adoption of BIM methodology in civil construction projects.

The conference, which lasted the morning was attended by collegiate members (mainly), but by designers, construction managers, product manufacturers and software distributors.

After a brief introduction by Sergi Saurí, president of the Knowledge Comission of the Institution and Francisco Diéguez, General Director of ITeC, the first section started with an introduction of the BIM methodology and the Integrated Delivery Projects carried out by Xavier Pallàs – Bimetric consultant- and with the presentation of five real experiencies from building and engineering companies which are working with BIM in civil engineering projects.

The conference was followed by talks from different professionals and experts in the field, like Francisco Román Ramírez, R+D coordinator at Copcisa SA, Andreu Cortada, BIM manager at IDP Enginyeria, Josep Ma Galán, BIM implementation coordinator at Comsa Emte, Ferran Bermejo, Technical Director of ITeC, Raimon Salvat, Technical Building Director at BIMSA or Emilio Solís, BIM Manager at Typsa-Catalunya, between others.

After the talks, Ferran Bermejo explained the role and commitment of ITeC with BIM, as an institution binding together all agents from the building sector. He also remembered the experience of ITeC in creating and maintaining database, applications and methodologies related with building projects management and placing all this expertise at sector agents’ disposition in order to encourage the adoption of BIM in a national context.

Finally, after question time, Francisco Diéguez thanked the public for its attendance, and pointed out that BIM is a very good opportunity to improve the efficiency of building projects in all stages.
