The company MAPEI SPA has obtained 2 ETAs for its Mapetherm Tile System: ETICS system with ceramic tiles as external cladding and EPS or MW boards as insulation layer.

The two Mapetherm Tile Systems systems are based on the same base coat and substrate adhesion layer mortars, the same finishing coatings, same cladding elements and grout products and they differ fundamentally in the thermal insulation boards, which are:

• MW boards in ETA 22/0854This is the first ETA issued in Europe under the new version of the EAD with TR15 MW boards.
• EPS boards in ETA 22/0855

ETICS systems provide external thermal insulation to masonry or concrete façade walls, with thermal insulation thicknesses from 40 mm to 200 mm (MW boards) and from 40 mm to 220 mm (EPS boards).

Both systems have been assessed for various ceramic cladding elements of different sizes; these cladding elements are not part of the ETICS kit commercialised by the ETA holder.

The assessment has been carried out according to EAD 040287-00-0404 Kits for external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) with panels as thermal insulation product and discontinuous claddings as exterior skin for ETA 22/0855 and based on EAD 040287-01-0404 for ETA 22/0854.

The assessment of the ETICS system based on EAD 040287-00-0404 (& EAD 040287-01-0404) addresses the following essential characteristics of the system: reaction to fire, impermeability to rainwater, water vapour permeability, durability, mechanical behaviour (wind resistance, impact resistance, dead load behaviour, mechanical capacity of components, bond strength and resistance of fixings) and thermal performance.
