Sharing knowledge on seismic safety at the WCEE2024 conference in Milan
Our colleague Jordi Navarro has presented the paper Seismic performance of braced steel framing buildings with chord studs concrete-filled , at the 18th world conference in seismic engineering -WCEE2024- held in Milan from June 30 to July 5, within the activities that make up his Industrial Doctorate [1] . This presentation is part of the work carried out so far in the context of the aforementioned Industrial Doctorate. The works are currently focused on the study of panels formed mainly by sections composed of cold formed profiles of small thickness – with or without concrete inside – as the only structural elements of multi-family buildings subjected to seismic actions, area in which a first article Customary light-gauge steel framing construction with flat strap bracing: seismicity limits for low to mid-rise buildings in Europe [2] was already published, in the journal Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering – BEE. The WCEE2024 conference was organized by the International Association for Earthquake Engineering and is the meeting point for all professionals who work in earthquake engineering , where the most relevant developments in this discipline are presented. The first edition was held in 1956 and has been held periodically since then. The previous edition was held in a hybrid format in Sendai (Japan) in December 2021, while the next edition will be held in Montreal from October 1 to 6, 2028. The WCEE2024 conference was attended by more than 4,000 people from more than 100 countries and nearly 4,000 papers were presented in thematic sessions, covering topics as diverse as artificial intelligence and machine learning, assessment and rehabilitation, bridges and critical facilities, cultural heritage and historic structures, concrete structures, factory work, steel and timber, the evolution of seismic engineering and regulation, etc. The conference also included visits to laboratories in the area that work on seismic issues, parallel technical sessions as well as the presence of companies with products and services related to the sector. More information about the conference is available on the web . This activity has been partially funded by the REMM research group and by the research project PID2020-117374RB-I00 / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033 (Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities).
