The startup Aridditive and Benito Urban print the first 3D printed urban concrete bench in Central Catalonia

La Pobla de Lillet has inaugurated a 3D printed concrete bench in the Town Hall Square, in front of the Romanesque bridge. The piece pays homage to the architecture of Antoni GaudÃ, present in the town with the Artigas Gardens and the Chalet del Catllarà s, and is the result of the collaboration between Benito Urban, the City Council, the Centre d’Estudis Lillet, Lagula Arquitectes and the startup Aridditive, a member of the Barcelona ConTech Hub.
The bench is the work of Zevin Song, a student at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, winner of the 1st FormART3D Design Competition, promoted by Benito Urban with the aim of combining Gaudà inspiration and additive manufacturing technology. The initiative received 76 proposals and seeks to promote university-business collaboration, as well as explore the possibilities of 3D concrete printing applied to street furniture.
Aridditive, a key participant in the project, has been in charge of the 3D printing of the bank, demonstrating how additive manufacturing technologies allow the reproduction of organic shapes inspired by GaudÃ, with a visual and functional impact on public space. Based on this experience, the startup and Benito Urban will work together on future projects for 3D benches and street furniture.
With this project, La Pobla de Lillet combines heritage, nature and innovation, showing how 3D technology can breathe new life into GaudÃ-inspired architecture and street furniture.
Additive or 3D manufacturing technology is gradually impacting the construction sector due to the great advantages it offers in terms of productivity and sustainability, becoming a great option when designing and producing different types of parts and construction systems applicable to all types of projects.
