ZIGGURAT SUMMIT 2026: Barcelona becomes the global epicentre of the AECO sector in the year of the world capital of architecture

On June 18, ZIGURAT Institute of Technology will hold the fourth edition of the ZIGURAT Summit, a face-to-face event dedicated to analyzing the main challenges of the AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations) sector. The conference will take place at the Valkiria Hub Space (Barcelona) from 09:00 a.m. and will be free of charge with prior registration.
This year, the congress takes on a special dimension as it coincides with Barcelona being the World Capital of Architecture 2026, reinforcing the city’s role as a global laboratory for innovation, design and urban transformation.
“The Barcelona construction blueprint”: from legacy to global challenges
Under the slogan “The Barcelona construction blueprint: from legacy to global challenges”, the Summit will propose a tour that connects Barcelona’s architectural legacy with the sector’s major current challenges: digitalisation, sustainability, industrialisation and the management of complex projects on an international scale.
The program will include presentations and panel discussions focused on the main transformations of the sector, with special attention to BIM, artificial intelligence, Lean construction, Digital Twins and new management models.
Speakers of international reference
The ZIGURAT Summit 2026 will feature the participation of top-level professionals from organisations such as WSP, FCC, AMB, Evalore, Kronos, One Creative Environments and the Sagrada FamÃlia Project Department, among others.
One of the prominent names of this edition will be NarcÃs Laguarda, architect member of the Junta Constructora de la Sagrada FamÃlia, who will provide a first-person view of one of the most emblematic and complex works in the world, giving keys to the technical, design and management challenges of this unique project.
Barcelona as a laboratory for transformation
Among the outstanding contents will also be addressed:
- The management of smart cities through the Digital Twin of Barcelona, with the participation of AMB.
- Sustainability and decarbonisation with cases such as Witty Wood, the first wooden office building in the city.
- The impact of artificial intelligence and Lean methodologies on project management
- The challenges of major international developments such as the New Bernabéu or Qiddiya.
- The evolution of the technical profile towards business leadership roles.
A global meeting point for the AECO sector
The ZIGURAT Summit 2026, which has the collaboration of 22@Network, buildingSMART Spain and GBCe, plans to bring together professionals from more than 60 nationalities, consolidating itself as an international reference space for architects, engineers, technicians and managers.
The conference will also offer simultaneous translation into Spanish and English to ensure global participation.
