The ITeC has developed the project “Study on the explainability of the energy efficiency calculation model” which has been subsidized with the support of ACCIÓ within the framework of the Coupons Indústria 4.0 program for testing advanced digital technologies – Digital Innovation Hub.

The requested service consisted of understanding how each of the characteristics of the buildings affect the calculation of energy efficiency. In a scenario where multiple simulations are generated, we wanted to be able to explain each of the results using explainable artificial intelligence techniques.

Different methods exist for the transparency and understanding of artificial intelligence, which have been evaluated to select the one that best suits the needs of the ITeC.

The results achieved have been precisely the realization of the state of the art necessary to find out the point at which the explainability is on a scientific scale, and to apply this knowledge to be able to create a prototype that determines the importance of the variables in the calculation of energy efficiency.
