The views of the EU on public procurement issues on the Barcelona Euroconstruct Conference

By Published On: 07/10/2016Categories: Conferences, Market research

The European Commission will present on the next November Euroconstruct conference in Barcelona the latest European strategy on public procurement. This is a key issue for the construction sector, given that almost a third of all construction activity in Europe is the result of a previous public bidding.

The new European directives are aimed at transparency and fair play in the process of awarding and contracting. But at the same time they are also powerful instruments for accelerating a model shift towards a more digitized, collaborative and ultimately more efficient construction process. The risk of failing to anticipating these changes is high, especially in a moment when public budgets for construction are tight and competition for contracts becomes tougher.

The chief economist of Banco Sabadell, Sofia Rodriguez, will contribute with an analysis of the macroeconomic context that will provide the necessary context for the specific forecast of the construction market until 2019 that will occupy the rest of the day. Euroconstruct keeps track of the state of the construction industry in each of the 19 countries of the network, monitoring the progress of residential and non-residential building and civil engineering, both in terms of new construction as well as renovation.
