SPEEDIER

SME Program for Energy Efficiency through Delivery and Implementation of Energy Audit

It’s a highly innovative one-stop-shop solution that applies an integrated approach to energy management, providing information, advice, capacity building, energy auditing, financing, implementation of energy efficiency solutions and monitoring of impacts.

It’s expected to contribute to energy saving with approximately 8 GWh/year and 1,280 tCO2/year. Within the lifetime of the project, will train more than 650 staff in the best practices of energy saving. The project will build capacity as well among 50 experts.

The European directive on energy efficiency requires the Member States to develop programs that encourage SMEs to carry out energy audits and to implement the recommended energy saving measures.

The barriers to overcome are:

  1. Lack of knowledge within the company;
  2. Lack of resources (time and money); perception that the energy audit is expensive;
  3. Lack of control of the building;
  4. Lack of will of the owners;
  5. Lack of funding

SPEEDIER will target groups of SMEs in 4 EU pilot regions: in Spain, the project will engage with SMEs based at a single business park to demonstrate that advantages of clustering SMEs give them better access to the economies of large scale projects; in Ireland and Romania, SPEEDIER will address SMEs in the manufacturing and hospitality sectors, respectively, and in Italy, a more general approach of accessing SMEs from any sector via ESCOs will be tested.

SPEEDIER project will address these barriers by providing SMEs with a self-financing outsourced energy management service.
