All Against Climate Change, the SDGs and Goal 2050

By Published On: 24/01/2021Categories: opinion, Sustainability

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals that constitute the vision of the future we want to become a fair, responsible and sustainable community. These were created in 2015 with the purpose that countries and societies undertake a new path with which to improve the lives of all, leaving nothing behind.

Currently, due to the alterations we are suffering due to climate change, a series of strategies, regulations and policies are being promoted in favor of progress and renewal of the methodologies we use to reach a common goal, for example, the SDGs, the use of eco-labels or the implementation of emission quantification tools, among others.

all of which are part of a long-term goal, the 2050 target.

In 2018, the 2050 Target was presented as a long-term strategy to achieve a competitive, modern and climate-neutral economy, i.e. one that realizes zero emissions into the atmosphere. Today, the regulation approved last June by the European Parliament transforms the commitment to achieve this climate neutrality into an obligation.

We explain to you, in a simple way, what the 2050 Objective is and how the construction sector, together with you, will contribute to it.

Climate Change, the SDGs and Goal 2050

What is the 2050 Objective?

The European Commission advocates a neutral Europe by 2050 and a reduction of its emissions by 80% below 1990 levels. That is why in November 2018 it presented its long-term strategic vision, the 2050 Target. This, shows how to reach the purpose of 0 emissions through technological investment, citizen empowerment and harmonization between different areas such as policy, financing or research, ensuring a cost-effective transition in the economy.

The main sectors responsible for carbon emissions are industry, power generation, transport, agriculture and construction. For this reason, the main strategies proposed by Goal 2050 focus on these areas.

How are we going to achieve the 2050 Goal? We are working tirelessly on creating strategies and building global resilience to help us adapt and move towards collective action.
