Last February, ITeC took part in the third meeting of the General Assembly of the Homeskin Project, which was held in Stuttgart, organised by the Stuttgart University.

The Homeskin project aims to develop a new silica Advanced Aerogel-Based Composite material , to bring to the market new insulation technologies that do not only possess a very high thermal insulation performance, but are also thinner, lighter, non-flammable, and with lower CO2 and VOC emissions. The project is funded by the European innovation and research programme with the highest budget in history, Horizon 2020, which will finance projects through competitive calls opened during the period 2014-2020.

The main role of ITeC in this project is the identification of the technical and obligatory requirements at a European level which are relevant for the products and uses expected, and the orientation of the innovation and development process to accomplish these requirements.

At this moment, the project is one year old, so the first results are available. ITeC has finished the identification of the technical and obligatory requirements affecting the products and their uses.

The company Enersens (PCAS group) has developed the AABC material, which meets the specific requirements. Meanwhile, manufacturers are developing the products and systems for the different uses of thermal insulation based on the AABC material.

The next meeting of the General Assembly of the Homeskin project will take place at the ITeC headquarters, on September 2016.
