The ENERURB cooperative project has reached its final phase with the development and consolidation of a new capacity on the ESPREH platform, designed to perform automated energy analysis on building complexes on an urban scale. This technological evolution represents a decisive step towards the digitization of energy diagnosis processes, allowing large-scale renovation opportunities to be identified in a much faster, more reliable and scalable way.

The solution developed consists of a prototype that integrates a direct connection with the Cadastre. This functionality allows the geometric formation of the buildings, their type of use and the year of construction to be automatically incorporated. Based on this basic data, the system has defined archetypes for both envelopes and air conditioning systems, providing the necessary information to estimate the energy performance of the building stock on a massive scale. One of the great added values of this new tool is the presentation of the results. Through clear and detailed visual reports, users can easily identify the main points of energy loss and gain of each building based on the different elements of its envelope. In addition, the system makes it possible to group buildings by typologies in order to detect common patterns, a key feature for prioritising areas of action and planning improvement strategies within a neighbourhood or urban complex.

Rehabilitation scenarios aligned with the CAE

During this final phase, the prototype has integrated the ability to propose specific rehabilitation scenarios for the selected buildings and evaluate their real energy impact. A highlight of the project has been the alignment of these improvement proposals, both for the residential and tertiary sectors, with the criteria of the Energy Saving Certificates (CAE) sheets. This greatly facilitates the identification of actions likely to generate certifiable energy savings, creating new business and financing opportunities for the sector.

ENERURB was born 11 months ago with the need to overcome the limitations and barriers of current energy diagnosis processes, which are often excessively expensive and difficult to scale collectively. Thanks to the integration of ITeC’s geometric calculation and solar simulation tool with the ESPREH web platform, the project has managed to adapt the technology to operate effectively at the scale of neighbourhoods and blocks of complete houses.

The ENERURB project is coordinated by the Efficient Energy Cluster of Catalonia (CEEC) and is developed jointly with a consortium of leading entities and companies in the sector formed by the Institute of Construction Technology of Catalonia (ITeC), PACI Global, BIS211 and Novaltra.

The project is aligned with the strategic objectives of digitalisation, innovation and energy transition to transform the building stock and is funded by ACCIÓ (Generalitat de Catalunya) within the framework of Line 2 of grants for cluster cooperative projects.
