The different Contact Points of the European Commission have been consulted in order to gather which are the regulatory requirements in each EU country that affect the use of wood charcoal ovens in the commercial and catering sectors.
Identification of the regulatory requirements of wood-thermoplastic composite boards
A manufacturer of cladding boards for construction wants to obtain a CE mark for a product with a core of wood-based panel with a synthetic sheet bonded on one or both sides. The core is regulated by a harmonized European standard, but since the sheet modifies the behavior of the product (its fire reaction and hydrothermal performance, for a start) it is not clear if it can be assessed with the same criteria, since the competitive advantages may go unnoticed.
Electrical conductivity of a precast panel
A precast manufacturer needs to verify the electrical resistance of the concrete used in its panels, since it might be influenced by the moisture content. The test proposed by ITeC has measured resistivity in some completely dry samples, in samples in conditions of equilibrium with the ambient humidity and finally in others in a state of saturation. The results have allowed to determine if at some point the material can no longer be considered insulating.
Technical support in the bidding process of a large-scale project
A company owned by different public administrations wanted to start up a building project worth more than € 100 million and requested help from ITeC in order to prepare the tender documents with ITeC’s TCQ methodology, handle the inquiries of the bidders and finally compare the offers received also using TCQ.
Technical evaluation of the bids submitted for the construction management tasks for a unique building
Before starting the construction of a building that will house 30,000 m2 of offices for an institutional client, a tender has been called to select a project management provider in charge of overseeing the tender and subsequent construction work. ITeC has evaluated the different offers received and graded them according to the technical competence of the staff and the working methods proposed by the bidders, so that the client can make a decision that is not based exclusively on price.
Economic valuation of the stock of buildings on a university campus
The society that manages a university campus needs to establish the value of the buildings in it. This was to be calculated using the replacement cost method, which is usually based on average construction costs per square meter. However, the kind of buildings involved are not too close to what can be considered average buildings, therefore it was necessary to carry out a more accurate estimation taking into account the actual building techniques used in reality, using ITeC’s databases and budgeting software.
Building regulations for “basic” housing
This proposal seeks to create appropriate legal conditions for building “basic” dwellings at a lower cost than the current ones, allowing floor plans more responsive to contemporary lifestyles, customizable with different choices of partitions and level of equipment. It is proposed as a complementary regulation, compatible with the current ones both at national and regional level.
Occupational safety and health in municipal works
Tool to implement the safety and health regulations in the construction sites under the responsibility of a Provincial Council. It is based on a series of 11 forms that describe which are the specific demands of the regulations regarding issues such as protective equipment, safety signs or subcontractors, specifying how the responsibility for compliance is distributed between the developer, the company that carries out the construction or maintenance work, and the workers themselves.
Designing architecture with dimensional coordination criteria
Current construction practices do not pay too much attention to issues such as dimensional rationalization and the compatibility between materials and techniques. This usually tends to increase costs, execution times and the volume of waste. Dimensional coordination aims to promote the smooth matching between construction elements from different manufacturers or suppliers in a bid to optimize resources and improve quality.
RISK-UE Project: Earthquake risk scenarios with applications to different European cities
Evaluates the potential effects of different seismic phenomena in a sample of cities, simulating how existing buildings would behave. In the case of Barcelona, ??ITeC has studied the case of the typical buildings of the Eixample, as representative of the most widespread housing typology in the city; also adding a couple of Gothic buildings as examples of heritage architecture.
