Eco-labels are a system for evaluating products, materials or services that help us to identify those with a lower environmental impact through a series of ecological criteria. Their purpose is to encourage the use of products and services that contribute to the care and conservation of the environment by transferring information to the user.
The international standard UNE-EN ISO 14020 establishes the general principles of labels:
- Reducing the environmental impact of products and services
- Inform and encourage consumers to make environmentally conscious choices.
- Encourage manufacturers to use them.
- Promote eco-design in product development.
- Motivating sales through environmental marketing.
Ecolabels are currently classified into three types, regulated by international standards ISO 14021, 14024 and 14025.
The choice between one ecolabel or another brings you different environmental advantages, from complying with public regulations to carrying out private certifications at the building level that exist in the market. The way these certifications take into account all eco-labels changes depending on their content and the type of eco-label.
