The company Hempel A/S has obtained ETA 23/0422 for its intumescent paint for fire protection of steel structural elements.

Hempafire Optima 500 (48880) is a spray-applied or, for small areas, brush-applied water based acrylic intumescent coating. Hempafire Optima 500 has been assessed for the following colours formulation: white (Hempel shade #10000) and light grey RAL 9002 (Hempel shade # 17620).

Hempafire Optima 500 is used as a reactive coating system for fire protection of structural steel beams and columns in order to achieve fire resistance classification according to EN 13501-2.

The intended use of Hempafire Optima 500 is fire protection of open sections (H and I) and rectangular and circular hollow sections, of different dimensions, up to a fire resistance duration in the design temperature range of 300 ºC to 850 ºC.

The compatibility and performance of the paint has been evaluated with a wide range of primers and topcoats, for exposure classes Type Y (semi-exposed conditions) and Type Z1 (internal use with high humidity conditions) and Type Z2 (internal use), depending on the topcoats.
