Launch of the project RECONSTRUCT

By Published On: 27/07/2023Categories: Innovation, Sustainability

The first of June marked the beginning of RECONSTRUCT, the first European project coordinated by ITeC and supported by numerous partners from all over Europe. The main objective of this project is to develop low-carbon alternatives to Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), encompassing both renovations and new constructions, while incorporating construction and demolition waste. To attain this objective, the components of the construction will be manufactured and crafted with a focus on modularity and disassembly, thereby facilitating its reuse and recycling.

One of RECONSTRUCT’s primary objectives is to incorporate the process of deconstruction into the design and construction of circular buildings, thereby reducing carbon emissions and minimizing the generation of waste throughout its entire life cycle. This will be achieved by a widespread use of digitalization in materials, products, and buildings under construction. Advanced digital tools will be implemented and will support the design, construction, and dismantling phases of those circular buildings.

Furthermore, RECONSTRUCT aims to add value to the construction process through the creation of regional ecosystems known as “Circular Clusters”. Those ecosystems, established in Brussels and Barcelona, will gather a variety of actors covering all aspects of the circular construction, promoting collaboration and synergy between them.

In addition to coordinating the project, ITeC is responsible for the development of the Digital Product Passport and the creation of the Building Material Passport. As well as carrying out the Life Cycle Analysis, the Life Cycle Cost, and the impact monitoring according to the Level(s) indicators.

The kick-off meeting of the project took place on the 22nd and 23rd of June in Barcelona, at the ITeC facilities, and counted with the participation of the 16 partners of the project.
