European Technical Assessment EcoTimberCell, a Climate Change Mitigation Project

By Published On: 10/05/2022Categories: Innovation, Sustainability, Technical information

The European document that records the technical assessment of the performance of a manufacturer’s product or kit in relation to the essential characteristics applicable for the intended use, when this is not covered or not fully covered by a harmonised technical specification, is called ETA – European Technical Assessment. It is drawn up on the basis of the European Assessment Document (EAD) covering the product and proposed uses, and makes the Declaration of Performance and CE marking possible.

This assessment, together with CE marking, facilitates the marketing of non-standard and innovative products and systems in European and non-European markets.

The process of developing an ETA is triggered by a manufacturer’s application to a designated Technical Assessment Body (TAB).

ITeC has been an authorized body for the assessment of non-standard and innovative products within EOTA since 1996 and is designated as a TAB of Regulation 305/2011 for all the Product Areas foreseen by the Regulation.

Currently, among all the documents issued are the European Technical Assessments of EcoTimberCell products ETA 21/0757 and T ETA21/0758, promoted by the LIFE EcoTimberCell project and evaluated by ITeC. The owner of both documents is the company Timbersoul By Cándido Hermida S.L, located in Narón (A Coruña).

EcoTimberCell is a wood-based composite box beam and column and ETC Box is a wood-based prefabricated structural panel. Both products are used as structural elements in buildings and civil engineering structures. The assessment made in these ETEs has been based on a service life of at least 50 years, information to be considered for the choice of suitable products in relation to the expected service life of the works.
