Tool for quick estimation of CO2 emissions in civil engineering projects

Tool for quick estimation of CO2 emissions in civil engineering projects

It provides civil engineers with CO2 emission values during the process of designing infrastructure projects. It is a web tool where the user can choose among different technical options for the key types of work, enter the quantities and get an amount of CO2 emissions automatically. As a result, it is possible to make project decisions taking into account the environmental footprint.

Verification of the Environmental Product Declarations of a range of bituminous mixtures

Verification of the Environmental Product Declarations of a range of bituminous mixtures

ITeC has carried out the formal verification of the Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) of four different types of bituminous mixtures, checking the production process and the input data of raw materials, the output data of finished product, plus waste and emissions. In addition to reevaluating the EPDs, the verification process has also allowed the manufacturer to update the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of the products in question.

Life Cycle Assessment based on the bill of quantities of the project

Life Cycle Assessment based on the bill of quantities of the project

A property developer wants to make sure that the design and construction choices made in a mixed-use development have contributed to reduce its environmental footprint. ITeC has been commissioned to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the manufacturing and construction phases to measure the embodied energy, CO2 emissions, waste and quota of recycled materials, using the information provided by the bc3 file with the bill of quantities of the project.

Verification of the Environmental Product Declarations of a range of paints

Verification of the Environmental Product Declarations of a range of paints

A paint manufacturer has already calculated the environmental impact of the manufacturing process of one of its product ranges and has asked ITeC to carry out an independent verification. It has been checked whether the production process and consumption described in the initial calculation fit with reality in the factory. After confirming that there are no significant deviations, the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is considered valid.

Upgrade of the BEDEC database with electric construction equipment

Upgrade of the BEDEC database with electric construction equipment

Until now, the BEDEC database only contemplated that certain construction equipment (dumpers, loaders, excavators, vibratory rammers...) were powered by combustion engines, even though versions with electric motors are already available on the market. ITeC has added these new alternatives to the database, that reduce the environmental footprint of the project, although there may be a cost difference to consider. In total, BEDEC users now have more than 80 construction operations where they can choose between traditional equipment and electrical equipment.

Life cycle analysis of a public housing development to be built with off-site techniques

Life cycle analysis of a public housing development to be built with off-site techniques

A construction company was preparing a bid to compete for a public housing project and needed to include a life cycle analysis (LCA) of the proposed industrialized building. ITeC has been asked to carry out the LCA according to the conditions of the contracting body, who required to assess the manufacturing, construction, transport and end-of-life phases, to follow the UNE-EN-15978 standard and to justify the environmental data used for the calculation.

Life Cycle Analysis of residential buildings aligned with the Level(s) framework

Life Cycle Analysis of residential buildings aligned with the Level(s) framework

A construction company wants to start performing Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) on the residential construction projects in its pipeline, but making sure that they fit with Level(s) framework, which is the methodology that EU recommends for LCAs. The solution proposed by ITeC allows the construction company to keep using its current cost analysis and budgeting system, linking it with ITeC’s TCQiGMA software that will calculate more than 15 environmental indicators of the project, predicting the generation of waste to facilitate its management and facilitating compliance with the main macro-objectives of Level(s).

Assessment of the environmental impact of an off-site building system

Assessment of the environmental impact of an off-site building system

A manufacturer of off-site building components wanted to assess the environmental impact of its products for enhancing the rigor of its commercial offer. ITeC has calculated it according to the Life Cycle Analysis ISO and EN standards using TCQiGMA software that assesses the emissions and the energy of the whole building, both in the manufacturing phase and in the construction phase.

Verification of Environmental Product Declarations of liquid waterproofing membranes

Verification of Environmental Product Declarations of liquid waterproofing membranes

A manufacturer needed independent verification of the Life Cycle Analysis and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of its liquid waterproofing membranes, a task that ITeC has assumed as authorized consultant for the DAPcons® system. It was necessary to verify the origin and volumes of raw materials and the destination and volumes of waste, reflect the deviations in a report and finally declare the EPD valid.

Life Cycle Analysis of a domestic ventilation system

Life Cycle Analysis of a domestic ventilation system

A Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) has been carried out on a ventilation and filtering system with heat recovery targeted at the housing market. The documentation provided has allowed the manufacturer to issue a “cradle to gate” self-declaration in accordance with UNE-EN 14804+A2 standard.
