Greywater reuse systems

Greywater reuse systems

Reusing greywater (from showers and wash hand basins) has the potential to save up to 45% of water consumption. This study analyses the feasibility and cost of adding greywater systems in new buildings, concluding that it does not involve a significant increase of the execution budget.

Technical actions to promote reuse, minimization and selection of waste from construction and demolition works

Technical actions to promote reuse, minimization and selection of waste from construction and demolition works

Strategies for controlling and reducing the heterogeneous waste generated by the construction sector in the demolition stage and also during the execution stage itself, both in new works and renovation.

Pilot test for using old tire strips to reinforce slopes

Pilot test for using old tire strips to reinforce slopes

Assessment of the feasibility of reinforcing slopes with strips of old tires, testing the system in terms of safety and deformability. It is based on a computer simulation that makes it possible to check the amount of tires required for the proper performance of the system.

Harnessing construction waste

Harnessing construction waste

Three themes are covered: waste generated by construction (demolition techniques and reuse of waste); the construction industry as a consumer and neutralizer of waste from other industries (proposals of reuse of inert waste such as tires); neutralizing procedures based on methods used in construction.

Characterization, proposals and recommendations for using waste tires as construction material

Characterization, proposals and recommendations for using waste tires as construction material

Status of the used tire market, its potential and the type of end applications that are found in other countries. Three forms of reuse are proposed: for stabilizing embankments, cuts and fills; as road safety elements used as pylons in the sides or central reservations; as road safety elements used as barrier coating after being crushed and bonded with polyurethane.

Current status of the rubble recycling industry

Current status of the rubble recycling industry

Inventory of the treatment plants that can handle waste from construction and demolition, that are operative at the moment in Catalonia. With data on the types of materials recycled and the performance of the recycled material they produce, including comparable references from the activity and results achieved in other surrounding countries.

Recommendations for the use of slag from municipal waste-burning plants

Analysis of the potential for reusing the slag generated by municipal waste incinerators to manufacture large-sized construction elements.
